Creating Your Website
Your text is ready, you have some pictures that you want to put up, and you have chosen a domain name. Now what?
The next step is to find a web designer. Naturally, I recommend my own services, but there are many others in Halifax. We each have our own style and way of doing things. The best way to choose a designer is to look at his or her portfolio. If you like what you see, chances are good that you will like the end result for your own website.
Once you have found someone you like and negotiated a price for your site, the next step is to communicate your preferences to the web designer. If for example you want a certain colour scheme or layout, this would be a good time to mention it.
Or maybe you have come across a site that you liked? In that case, point your web designer to the site and tell him that you want something similar to it. Note that no ethical web designer will ever copy someone else’s designs. They will, however, be able to use your preference as a guideline for their own work.
Alternatively, you might simply let the designer make the call. Most of us have gained valuable insight about the nature of design and how different business benefits from different approaches. A spa, for example, will need a different colour scheme and layout then a store selling lumberjack equipment; what works for one business will not work for all others.
Either way, your finished website should be only days away, depending on your designer’s schedule.
What about updating your site? I’m glad you asked.
